Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Elena Aiken

Everybody knows that the most beneficial foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats in addition to healthy fats. These would be the foods that give us all protein and energy. They help our bodies be balanced without infusing lots of calories that we will have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a few of the foods you've been thinking are fine for your diet plan could actually be making you retain weight? They can also be making you gain additional fat! Here are a few of the foods that you may be consuming which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You aren't actually aided by Sports Drinks. You have most likely been told that the sports drink is the proper way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Most doctors will tell you, though, that if your training doesn't go over ninety minutes then you ought to be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don't need including artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Instead, have a shot at drinking some chocolate milk. The sugar in chocolate can help your muscles start to repair themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

You do not need protein shakes. Lots of people believe that protein shakes may be used instead of meals and to curb cravings between meals. When you happen to be eating an otherwise healthy diet, however, a protein shake just sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular opinion, protein does not get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This means that if you have already consumed too much protein that day, your whole body will simply store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not nearly as good for you as you might believe it is. You probably are convinced a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives as well as sodium (one portion contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This might be specifically problematic if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, pick some home cooked poultry or the deli meats that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Yes you'll spend more money for these options but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are all sorts of things that we believe will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for instance is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask a medical professional which foods are most effective for you and then eat those. If you are careful about what you eat and are good to your entire body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
