Vitamin B12 for Weight Loss

By Anne Hastings Fennell

For many years, it has been accepted that the maintenance and monitoring of bodily functions is affected positively by vitamin B12. It is a water soluble vitamin that is essential for proper functioning of the brain, nervous system and formation of blood. It is one of eight B vitamins that are found in the body. This is also utilized in the process of forming energy, and helps to create the necessary genetic material found in cells, called DNA. Not having enough B12 in the body is one of the reasons the skin appears to age, so for creams that are designed for anti-ageing, this is usually an ingredient. It can be introduced to the body in a variety of ways, injection, anti-aging creams that include it, or on it's own as a topical solution.

People noticed that Vitamin B12 was correlated to weight loss, this was unexpected.

Vitamin B12 does not cause weight loss. However, the vitamin is able to help you reach your weight loss goals by improving your metabolism. Metabolizing proteins and fats is a main function of B12. Energy is increased by this, so exercise is much easier and weight loss is a result of getting active. Vitamin B12 is known to slow weight gain down significantly also, if that is an issue as well as losing weight. Studies have shown that those who are deficient in Vitamin B12 are more likely to be obese compared to those who don't, as the latter group have more energy.

Stress levels are known to be lessened by having B12 injections. The benefits for those taking B12 that are out of shape, are much higher than what they do for a person who is already in an optimal physical form. Injectable B12 could be the answer if having a lack of energy is an issue for you, as it can increase this dramatically.

A diet rich in B12 is an option also and it is a good idea for maintaining health, but for those who need to shed a lot of weight, foods do not contain enough of this vitamin for that purpose. Injections of Vitamin B12 are much more effective in nutrient absorption in contrast to taking pills, and for this reason it is a popular way to boost metabolism. In most cases, it's every 2 or 4 weeks that the injections are delivered, but each patient and physician can work out the timing that is best in an individual's case.

Is it Safe?

It's a good idea to consult with a doctor before you get this treatment so you can be sure that your health won't be put at risk because of the shots.

There are some side effects associated with getting Vitamin B12 injections. These include palpitations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and pain at the site of injection.

Frankly speaking, the shots give a tremendous boost of energy. Because of this, people are able to get more physical easier and exercise more, and that will give people motivation to improve their diet as well. It also helps to fight stress and depression, symptoms which are sometimes associated with weight gain.
