Foods That Will Boost Your Metabolism

By Dora Hector

There are many types of metabolism boosting foods that a person can incorporate in his or her diet in order to lose weight quickly, and maintain the desired weight. Safe and long term weight loss only occurs when a person exercises, eats the right foods and burns more calories than he or she intakes on a typical day. The following are some of the best metabolism boosting foods available in the market.

Spinach and Broccoli - Metabolism is the body's process of turning fat into energy. Spinach is one food that is known to increase metabolism. This food is also a great source vitamin C, potassium, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants, all of which can improve your overall health. Broccoli is another good source of Vitamin C and this helps the body to absorb calcium in a more efficient manner. Calcium is considered by nutritionists to be a metabolic trigger, so the more calcium you have, the faster your metabolism.

Green Tea and Coffee - Green tea contains a substance known as EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate. This catechin can boost your metabolism by speeding up your nervous system and brain function. Consequently, this will increase the rate at which your body converts fat into energy. Coffee on the other hand, contains caffeine, which is a stimulant. By drinking the recommended two to three cups of coffee a day, your metabolism will increase as the body tries to provide enough energy to keep you stimulated and active throughout the day. When taking a cup of tea, you can add cinnamon to enhance the taste. Cinnamon helps to lower cholesterol levels in the blood as well as maintaining a steady sugar level. Regular use can increase the efficiency of your body's metabolic processes.

Jalapenos and Curry - One of the best metabolism boosting foods is jalapenos, which contains capcaisin. This compound is known to increase the body's metabolism and heart rate for several hours after being ingested. Curry also has the same benefits as jalapenos. When preparing your meals, you can always add cayenne pepper, among other spices, to not only enhance the taste of your meals but also to increase your metabolism.

You should always take care to balance the meals you are eating on any diet plan. Proteins should come from white meats like chicken or tuna or from legumes such as beans. You should avoid processed foods, deep fried foods, and alcoholic beverages. Also avoid artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Drink plenty of water, increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, and you should start to see improvements in just a few weeks.
