The Variations Of London Yoga

By Lela Perkins

When one would want to take up London yoga, he must first prepare himself both physically and mentally in order to embark on this new journey. Of course before he would take up an official class, he must do some research about what to expect when he takes it up otherwise he will become overwhelmed. For those who do not know anything about this ancient art, here are some things that may enlighten beginners.

Now there are so many variations that have been sprouting out ever since this art has gained some popularity. Among these types, there are four main ones where in the others came from. Basically, these four main variations are known as Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar versions.

Probably the oldest form of yoga would be Hatha which was created by the pioneer yogis of the fifteenth century. Now the primary purpose of this form is to attain enlightenment in the body and soul in order to reach a higher level of understanding. That is why this form focuses more on the meditation while it only focuses a little bit on the exercise part.

Eventually, the yogi pioneers realized that they needed to keep their body fit in order to keep from getting sick. For this purpose, the Vinyasa variation was created in order to complement the Hatha version. It is from this variation that the very well known Sun Salutation, which is a flowing routine where in one does twelve kinds of poses while moving in a slow movement, came from.

Aside from this one, the Ashtanga also came out when others wanted a more intense exercise. Basically, this one is actually very similar to the Vinyasa kind but with a lot bit more emphasis on jumps, forward lunges, push ups, and some other types of strong and fast movements. This type should only be done by those who are used to hard training and would want to break a sweat.

The Iyengar one is another one that somehow stemmed out from Ashtanga. However, the difference here is that Iyengar actually uses a lot of tools. The purpose of these tools is to help the body align itself properly while the practitioner does the poses.

From these four main ones, a lot of other variations have started to come out due to the popularity of the main four. One of the most popular ones would be the Bikram version which is practicing this art in a very hot environment in order to lose more calories. Another popular form is hanging yoga which involves doing poses while in the middle of the air.

So basically, those are some of the types of London yoga that one would be encountering in his research. Of course he must choose the one that is best suited for his body as well as his personal preference so that he will be able to benefit. If he is decided on one type, then he may just go for it.
