Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Its cosmetic applications have advanced significantly over the last few years, with more and more people now looking to undergo botox injections with the hope of getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

What about Botox for Men?

There is a common misconception that botox injections are sought after by women and women alone. This is far from the truth. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. Media outlets have come up with a term for this, and 'bro-tox' seems to fit the bill. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

The trends are always evolving

The use of botox is rising. By some reports, the overall increase in botox treatments between 2010 and 2011 rose 5%, up to 5.7 million patients from 5.4 million the year before. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. The previously attached 'stigma' and social attitude to botox injections being the treatment reserved for the wealthy no longer exists, and neither does any sense of any shame of undergoing the procedure. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
